Most people say that king Richard I the Lionheart was the hero of the crusades, but is this true? Is Saladin the real hero?
King Richard had led 2 Crusades and he was a fierce warrior. He was king of England and very famous. His favorite country was France though, there he spend most of his time. Both times he reached Jerusalem, but he didn't attack because he knew his army wasn't strong enough. In the second crusade he led, he agreed a truce with Saladin.
Lord Saladin was a generous man. He re-conquered large areas of the Crusader kingdom and put it back into Muslim hands. His greatest victory was the Barrle of Hattin in July 1187. Among the prisoners he held were King Guy of Jerusalem and Reynold of Chcâtillion. After his re-capture of Jerusalem, he took the Holy crosses down. The caputives were given back if there was ransom paid for them, however many poor people became slaves and just some of them were set free al well. Saladin invited the Jews back to Jerusalem and let Christians pray in their churches again. Saladin did also do cruel things, he cut of Reynold's head of with his own hands in front of King Guy.

King Richard and Saladin both did good things and cruel things to the Muslims and Christians. Both were courageous and fierce warriors. Because of this, Richard nor Saladin is the real hero, they are both the same (Go to the forum to share your opinion).
